Former Rangers defender Craig Moore has revealed that Ange Postecoglou believes he may have accepted the Nottingham Forest job too soon.
The Australian endured a torrid spell at the City Ground, lasting just 39 days before being dismissed last October after failing to record a single win in eight matches.
That brief and unsuccessful tenure went down as the shortest reign by a permanent manager in Premier League history.
Postecoglou’s Forest exit came only four months after he was sacked by Tottenham in June 2025, a decision that raised eyebrows given he had guided Spurs to their first major trophy in 17 years.
Since then, the 60-year-old has stepped away from frontline management and is currently working as a technical advisor with UEFA.
‘A little bit more time’
While Postecoglou is expected to return to the dugout at some point, he appears cautious about rushing into another role.
Moore, a former Australia captain who played under Postecoglou at Brisbane Roar, recently caught up with his former manager during December’s Melbourne Derby between Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, Moore explained that Postecoglou has since reflected on his decision to take the Forest job so soon after leaving Spurs.
“I went to the Melbourne Derby and was in the box with both Ange Postecoglou and Kevin Muscat,” Moore said. “We enjoyed the game and I had a good chance to speak with them both.
“Ange was talking about how much he loved his time at Celtic, but potentially he jumped in a little too quickly with Nottingham Forest.
“All coaches have huge belief in themselves, but with hindsight he said, ‘I should have taken a little bit more time’. That said, we know he’ll land on his feet.”
Could Postecoglou return to Celtic?
Moore was also asked whether Postecoglou had hinted at a possible return to Celtic, where he enjoyed enormous success before taking over at Spurs in 2023, winning back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles during his two seasons in Glasgow.
With Martin O’Neill currently in interim charge following Wilfried Nancy’s dismissal, Postecoglou’s name has frequently been mentioned as a potential long-term option for the Hoops.
However, Moore admitted he did not raise the topic directly.
“I didn’t ask the question, to be honest,” he said. “Sometimes great achievements and great memories are better left as they are.
“What I do know is that he has a real fondness for the club. He loved Glasgow—and unfortunately for me, he was very successful there.”
