Rangers agreement in place for new striker after weekend talks as twist emerges

Rangers have reportedly reached a verbal agreement to sign Ryan Naderi from Hansa Rostock, though there’s a major caveat.

Naderi has long been considered a top target for Rangers as manager Danny Rohl looks to bolster his attacking options at Ibrox.

Last week, Rostock rejected a Rangers bid exceeding £3 million, despite it matching the German third-tier club’s valuation. However, according to Chris Jack of the Rangers Review, the two clubs have now agreed on terms to secure the 22-year-old’s transfer.

Naderi’s Rangers debut will have to wait

While the breakthrough in talks is a positive step, Naderi will not be joining Rangers immediately. He is set to remain at Rostock for the rest of the 2025-26 season, with his official move to Glasgow delayed until the summer window. Rostock reportedly insisted on keeping Naderi for the remainder of the campaign, and Rangers accepted this compromise.

Discussions between the clubs reportedly took place over the weekend, establishing the framework for the deal. Meanwhile, Rangers are also continuing their pursuit of Southampton striker Cameron Archer, though that transfer remains uncertain.

The potential of a Naderi-Archer double deal

Securing both Naderi and Archer would represent the ideal scenario for Rangers. Naderi would join in the summer, while Archer could be available immediately if the deal goes through.

According to performance data, Naderi is a dynamic presence in the final third, though it should be noted he is currently competing in Germany’s third tier rather than the English Championship. If brought in together, the two strikers could complement each other effectively, giving Rohl more attacking options.

Sunday’s goalless draw with Hibernian underlined the need for reinforcements, making any new additions a welcome boost for the Gers.
