Neco Williams apologised to his Nottingham Forest teammates after being sent off during their 1-1 Premier League draw with Crystal Palace at the City Ground, according to Morgan Gibbs-White.
Forest had been in control for much of the opening period, taking the lead through Gibbs-White’s early strike. However, the match turned on the stroke of half-time when Williams was shown a red card for handling Jefferson Lerma’s header on the goal line.
Ismaïla Sarr calmly converted the resulting penalty to bring Palace level, forcing Forest to play the entire second half with ten men. Despite the setback, Sean Dyche’s side produced a determined and disciplined display after the break to secure a valuable point against a direct relegation rival.
Speaking after the game, Gibbs-White insisted Williams should not shoulder the blame for the incident.
“It felt like we could have taken all three points today,” he told Sky Sports, via the BBC. “We dominated the first half and then went down to ten men. It was Neco’s natural instinct and he apologised to all of us—it’s not his fault.
“The gaffer told us we had to stick together, run together and work as a team. Stay solid defensively and then look to attack when we could, and I think we did that perfectly.
“We have to keep looking forward. That won’t change, but we also have to be mindful.”
The draw leaves Forest six points clear of the Premier League relegation zone, while Crystal Palace remain three points ahead of them in the table.
