Leeds United have not staged many fightbacks this season, with their last notable comeback coming against Liverpool at Elland Road. However, on Tuesday night, the Whites delivered a massive result away at Stamford Bridge.

Buoyed by a crucial victory over fellow relegation battlers Nottingham Forest, optimism was growing ahead of the trip to London.

That confidence was tested by a Chelsea side managed by Liam Rosenior, who arrived in strong form after winning seven of their previous nine matches across all competitions.

Early signs were worrying for Leeds. Just over 20 minutes in, Joao Pedro fired the hosts into the lead, and Chelsea carried that advantage into half-time. Matters worsened shortly before the hour mark when the Blues doubled their lead early in the second half.

Leeds, though, refused to fold. Lukas Nmecha reduced the deficit from the penalty spot, and six minutes later the visitors were level after Noah Okafor reacted sharply to capitalise on a defensive error.

Completing the comeback from two goals down, Leeds left Stamford Bridge with a point that stunned supporters and pundits alike.

The result has handed the Whites a vital edge in the battle for survival, with several analysts, including Alan Shearer, backing them to stay up. Not everyone is fully convinced, however. Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has urged caution when assessing Daniel Farke’s side.

“Absolutely, I see a lot from Leeds,” Murphy said on BBC Match of the Day. “They’ve shown quality, they’re well organised, and they create chances.

“The concern is that we’ve seen them play really well without winning enough games for the level of performance they’ve produced. Take the Newcastle match, for example — they played well but lost late on.

“They were also strong away at Sunderland and didn’t win. If they keep playing like this, they’ll be fine, but they’ve been performing at a very high level without collecting the points those displays have deserved.”
