A Rangers forward has revealed he felt “incredibly relieved” after securing a move away from before the January transfer window slammed shut.
Danilo left the side to join on loan until the end of the season, with the deal also including an option to buy.
The 26-year-old admitted he was overjoyed once the transfer was finalised, saying he “jumped for joy” when everything was confirmed.
Danilo originally arrived at Ibrox from in the summer of 2023. During his two-and-a-half years with Rangers, he found the net 16 times across 76 appearances.
Speaking to , Danilo said:
“It was absolute madness. I’m incredibly relieved that everything worked out. I jumped for joy when I heard the news. The thought that the transfer might not go through definitely crossed my mind. Every time my agent called with an update, I felt the tension.”
He also highlighted the personal challenges surrounding the move, adding:
“It was a difficult situation for my wife too, especially as she had just given birth. I really wanted to return to the Netherlands because I missed life here. The people are so friendly and the surroundings are fantastic.”
Reflecting on his spell in Glasgow, Danilo admitted he never quite managed to show his full potential.
“It was a great experience, but I wasn’t able to fully express myself, mainly because of injuries,” he said.
Explaining his decision to join NEC, he continued:
“I was looking for a club where I could get more playing time, and fortunately NEC offered me that chance.”
Danilo also believes his time in Scotland helped him grow as a player and a person.
“Scottish football demands much more physically from a striker, with so many duels. It’s definitely made me stronger. I left the Netherlands as a boy and came back as a man.”
He concluded:
“NEC did a great job making this move happen. I’ve left all the stress behind and now I just want to enjoy being here.”
