Senne Lammens explains how he dealt with Everton’s set-piece royal rumbles

Despite the relentless pressure, Lammens remained composed. He confidently claimed crosses whenever possible and only punched clear when absolutely necessary — a commanding presence that reassured the defence throughout the contest.

Man of the Match reaction

The Belgian shot-stopper was named Man of the Match and later addressed Everton’s physical approach in his post-match interview.

He acknowledged the challenge posed by the Toffees’ height and strength at set-pieces, admitting the level of contact was intense.

However, he stressed the importance of focusing on the ball rather than the surrounding bodies, crediting his defenders for creating the space needed to deal with crosses effectively.

Defensive improvement under Carrick

Since arriving from Royal Antwerp F.C., Lammens has brought stability to a backline that had struggled earlier in the campaign under Ruben Amorim. His assured performances have coincided with a noticeable defensive improvement.

The goalkeeper praised the team’s collective work rate, admitting the display — particularly in the first half — was not their best in possession.

Still, he emphasised that maintaining defensive solidity gives United the platform to rely on their attacking talent to secure results.
