Former Celtic F.C. striker and now pundit Chris Sutton has shared his verdict on this season’s gripping Scottish Premiership title race.
The defending champions are locked in a tight three-way battle with Rangers F.C. and Heart of Midlothian F.C., with just six points separating the trio as the campaign heads into a decisive phase.
Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of Sunday’s Glasgow Derby at Ibrox, Sutton suggested Hearts currently hold the advantage.
He admitted that while all three sides are likely to drop points before the season concludes, he would prefer to be in Hearts’ position, holding a four-point cushion over Rangers.
Although Celtic still have a game in hand, Sutton argued they lack the same depth and dominance that defined previous title-winning seasons.
In his view, the Hoops must significantly raise their performance levels to stay in contention, but he remains unconvinced they will reclaim the crown this term.
Sutton also turned his attention to recruitment, highlighting what he believes has been a decisive factor in the race.
He expected the January transfer window to play a crucial role but feels Celtic fell short compared to their rivals, describing their recruitment efforts as well below the required standard.
