“Crazy— Alan Shearer makes new West Ham relegation prediction after Liverpool defeat

Former England striker Alan Shearer has warned that West Ham United are heading toward relegation unless they urgently fix their defensive problems.

The Hammers currently sit two points from safety following a heavy 5–2 defeat away to Liverpool on Saturday.

Goals from Hugo Ekitike, Virgil van Dijk and Alexis Mac Allister put the hosts firmly in control by half-time at Anfield.

Tomas Soucek briefly reignited hope for the visitors early in the second half, but further strikes from Cody Gakpo and an own goal by Axel Disasi, along with a consolation from Taty Castellanos, sealed a comprehensive victory for Liverpool and left Nuno Espirito Santo’s side empty-handed.

Defensive frailties remain a major concern
West Ham had shown signs of improvement in mid-January, raising hopes that they could climb clear of the relegation zone. However, the loss at Anfield has once again exposed their vulnerabilities.

Although defeats for Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend meant the Hammers did not lose further ground, the margin for error is shrinking rapidly.
With just ten matches remaining in the Premier League season, West Ham remain entrenched in the drop zone.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Shearer insisted their defensive record must improve if they are to avoid relegation.

He said: “Unless they stop conceding crazy goals, no (they won’t stay up). In general play, I thought they did alright against Liverpool, but defensively they just look really weak.
“Unless that improves, they are not going to get out of it. I’ve looked at their fixture list as well, and they probably have the toughest run.”

A daunting run-in awaits
West Ham’s remaining schedule offers little comfort. Six of their final ten fixtures come against teams currently inside the top nine, including clashes with Manchester City, Arsenal and Aston Villa.

At this crucial stage of the campaign, every fixture carries huge significance. To secure survival, Nuno’s side may need to claim unexpected points against some of the league’s strongest opponents.

Relegation remains a real threat for the East London club, but survival is still within reach — provided they can tighten up defensively and produce a series of strong performances before the season concludes.
