Leeds United’s battle to remain in the Premier League is becoming increasingly tense after recent results tightened the relegation fight.

West Ham United’s win over Fulham F.C. and Nottingham Forest F.C.’s hard-fought draw against Manchester City F.C. on Wednesday night have further complicated matters near the bottom of the table.

Leeds didn’t help their own situation either, suffering a disappointing home defeat to Sunderland A.F.C. on Tuesday. That loss has left Leeds United F.C. sitting just three points above the drop zone with only nine matches remaining this season.

The Whites felt they were unfortunate in their recent home defeats to both Manchester City F.C. and Sunderland A.F.C., with several contentious refereeing decisions going against them. Now, captain Ethan Ampadu h spoken out as the club faces a growing survival challenge.

Ampadu accepts responsibility
Despite Leeds’ frustration with officiating and what they believed were deliberate time-wasting tactics from Sunderland, Ampadu acknowledged that he played a role in the decisive moment.

The Welsh international handled the ball inside the penalty area, allowing Habib Diarra to convert the penalty that ultimately sealed Sunderland’s 1–0 victory.

Diarra was also involved in a later incident that Leeds felt should have resulted in a red card.
Ampadu admitted the match was decided by fine margins and suggested that several key calls went against Leeds. Still, he took responsibility for his mistake and stressed that the team must quickly regroup ahead of their upcoming FA Cup fixture.

Writing on his Instagram story, Ampadu said:
“Fine margins and tough calls last night, but I own my part. We’ll regroup and respond in the cup on Sunday.”

Relegation pressure growing

While Leeds may feel hard done by with the officiating in their losses to Manchester City and Sunderland, the results themselves have clearly dented the squad’s confidence.

Not long ago, Leeds appeared relatively safe with a six-point cushion above the relegation zone. That advantage has now been cut in half, leaving the club looking nervously over its shoulder as the season enters its final nine games.

With so little margin for error remaining, every point could prove crucial in determining whether Leeds can secure their place in the Premier League for another season.
