David Moyes shares his Jordan Pickford frustration despite Everton experience

David Moyes has admitted that although Jordan Pickford has been outstanding for Everton, there are moments when he still needs to remind the goalkeeper to stay composed.

Everton are among the few Premier League teams who can rely completely on their goalkeeper, and in recent weeks Pickford has once again shown his quality with remarkable saves against Newcastle United and Burnley.

Jarrad Branthwaite was left amazed by Pickford’s brilliant stop that denied Sandro Tonali’s powerful volley against Newcastle. Despite his impressive performances, however, Moyes revealed there is one thing he occasionally has to remind the England international about.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Moyes explained that while Pickford is an excellent goalkeeper with great distribution and agility, he can sometimes get carried away with his emotions.

“He’s a really, really good goalkeeper. His distribution is excellent and, as you can see, his agility is top class,” Moyes said.

“But he does have his moments. Every now and then I remind him that he’s at his best when he stays calm and doesn’t get caught up in everything going on around him.”

Moyes also highlighted Pickford’s experience, noting that he has played a huge number of games and is approaching a century of caps for England.

Although former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has questioned whether Pickford is truly world-class, the 32-year-old has still been one of the league’s most reliable performers this season, sitting just behind the goalkeepers of the top two Premier League teams in terms of clean sheets.

With 81 England caps and 349 appearances for Everton, Pickford has become a key leader within the squad. Maintaining his composure on the pitch will be crucial as the Blues aim to end their long wait for qualification to European competition.
