Tensions were already high before kickoff as chaotic scenes unfolded outside Ibrox Stadium ahead of the Scottish Cup showdown between Rangers F.C. and Celtic F.C..

A section of Celtic supporters forced their way through entry points at the stadium on Sunday as thousands of away fans arrived for the quarter-final clash.

Around 7,500 Celtic supporters travelled to Ibrox after the Scottish Football Association reinstated the traditional away allocation in the Broomloan Stand for the first time in eight years.

Supporters had been instructed to arrive at the stadium as early as 10:30am ahead of the 1pm kickoff, with police carrying out checks before allowing fans into the ground. However, as crowds were guided toward the stadium entrances, tensions rose and some frustrated fans broke away from the main group.

Videos circulating on social media showed a number of supporters rushing toward the turnstiles, with several appearing to push past security barriers.

In one clip, a group was seen forcing through an entrance while stewards and security staff attempted to shut the gates and regain control of the situation. The doors were eventually closed, bringing the incident under control.

The derby encounter marked the second meeting between Rangers and Celtic within a week, adding extra intensity to an already fierce rivalry. With a place in the Scottish Cup semi-finals on the line, both sides were determined to move a step closer to lifting silverware this season.

The match itself was scheduled for 1pm at Ibrox, with Don Robertson appointed as the referee and Andrew Dallas overseeing VAR duties.

Footage shared online also showed supporters earlier in the day running past police checks and heading quickly toward the turnstiles. Other clips captured stewards attempting to block exit doors as fans pushed through and rushed into the stands.

The heightened scenes came as Celtic supporters filled the entire Broomloan Road end of the stadium — a larger allocation than usual due to Scottish Cup regulations — creating a charged atmosphere for one of Scottish football’s biggest fixtures.
