Supporters of both Rangers F.C. and Celtic F.C. spilled onto the pitch at Ibrox Stadium after a dramatic penalty shootout in the Scottish Cup.

Celtic secured a place in the semi-finals with a 4–2 victory on penalties following a tense 0–0 draw in another fiery Old Firm encounter.

Tomas Cvancara calmly converted the decisive spot-kick for the visitors, but celebrations quickly turned chaotic as tensions among supporters rose.

A large number of Celtic fans rushed onto the field, with some setting off pyrotechnics. In response, Rangers supporters from the opposite end of the stadium also entered the pitch, creating disorderly scenes inside the ground.

At one point, a fan managed to get dangerously close to Celtic players and staff before being swiftly brought down and removed from the pitch by police. Officers and stewards then formed a human barrier between the rival groups of supporters until the situation eventually calmed and fans returned to their respective sections.

In a statement, the Scottish Football Association strongly condemned the pitch invasion. The governing body confirmed that an investigation would begin immediately under its Judicial Panel Protocol.

Speaking during the broadcast, talkSPORT presenter Adrian Durham described the incident as a major moment for Scottish football, while reporter David Tanner — who witnessed a bottle of tonic wine being thrown — called it the worst disorder seen in many years.

Former midfielder Charlie Adam also criticised the events, labelling the scenes “a disgrace” and “a sad day for Scottish football.” He argued that both clubs must take responsibility, stressing that teams involved in the Old Firm rivalry are meant to set the standard for the sport in Scotland.

Adam warned that incidents like this damage the reputation of the game and said those responsible should face lifetime bans. He also urged the SFA and its chief executive Ian Maxwell to take firm action, suggesting both clubs could face serious sanctions.

After the match, Cvancara was seen with blood on his shirt during a post-match interview with Premier Sports, though it remains unclear how the injury occurred.

The match also marked the first time since 2018 that Celtic supporters had filled the entire Broomloan Stand, after previous allocations had been cut to fewer than 1,000 tickets.

Trouble had already been reported before kick-off, with footage circulating on social media appearing to show some away supporters forcing their way through gates outside Ibrox.
