Paul Merson Expresses Concern Over Everton’s Inconsistent Performances

Paul Merson has expressed worry over Everton’s inability to maintain dominance throughout matches, highlighting their struggle to produce fully complete performances this season.

David Moyes will lead the Toffees to north London on Saturday, boasting an away record that many Premier League clubs would envy. Everton remain in the hunt for European qualification and have the chance to disrupt Arsenal’s title ambitions.

Despite noticeable progress on Merseyside, Merson has identified a key concern. Speaking to Sportskeeda, he noted that Everton’s performances often come in patches rather than sustained 90-minute displays.

“My only problem with Everton is that they haven’t produced a proper 90-minute display while winning games,” Merson said.
“They only play well in bursts. If they drop off for even 30 or 45 minutes against Arsenal, it’s game over!”

Everton will be without Jarrad Branthwaite due to injury, though the Blues have shown strong resilience on the road for most of the season.

Historically, however, Everton have won just once in their last 29 visits to Arsenal, their last victory coming under Carlo Ancelotti in 2021.

This season, the Gunners have been formidable at the Emirates as they chase the Premier League title, but Everton did manage to give Arsenal a competitive test back in December at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

While facing Mikel Arteta’s side on their home turf remains a daunting challenge, Moyes’ men have impressed on their travels, with their away form under the manager since his return last year proving consistently impressive.
