‘Oliver Is Always On It’ – Leeds Boss Daniel Farke Clear On Crystal Palace Threat

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has brushed off suggestions that Crystal Palace might be affected by their midweek Conference League tie against AEK Larnaca, insisting that Oliver Glasner’s side will approach Sunday’s clash at Selhurst Park with a strong lineup.

Last Thursday, Crystal Palace claimed a 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and followed it up with a 0-0 draw against AEK Larnaca in the first leg of their Conference League round of 16 tie, making just two changes to an otherwise unchanged squad.

Leeds United, meanwhile, advanced to the FA Cup quarter-finals after defeating Farke’s former club Norwich City, with one former Premier League star praising the German tactician’s ability to turn strategies into results. Sitting three points above the Premier League relegation zone, the Whites have struggled for momentum, failing to win any of their last four league matches, making a positive result against Palace crucial.

Ahead of the weekend clash, Farke stressed that Palace’s European fixture is unlikely to have any significant effect, noting that the match was relatively low intensity and played at home. He also highlighted the depth of the Eagles’ squad, particularly in attack and midfield, pointing out that Palace have several bench options, though he expects a lineup largely similar to those fielded against Spurs and AEK Larnaca.

The 49-year-old added that Glasner’s side have hit a good run of form with positive Premier League results. He emphasised that Leeds will head into the game confident but must remain respectful and deliver their best performance at Selhurst Park.

Commenting on Palace’s strong approach in the Conference League, Farke said:
“No, it’s no surprise. Oliver is always focused when it comes to cup competitions, and I expected a strong starting lineup.

“But I don’t think yesterday’s game caused them many problems. They mostly played in one half, it wasn’t too intense, and it was a home game with minimal travel. They’ve had three proper nights to prepare.

“I don’t expect it to make a big difference. They have a strong offense and several options on the bench, particularly in midfield. They might rotate a little, but I don’t expect major changes.

“I expect a very similar team to the one we’ve faced recently – a strong side that is back in form. They’ve picked up many Premier League points in recent weeks, and while we travel in a good mood and with confidence, we must stay respectful and perform at our best.”

With just nine league matches left, Leeds will be eager to secure a positive result against Palace to maintain their buffer from the relegation zone, especially ahead of a tough home game against Brentford next week.

With the FA Cup still in play and a potential quarter-final tie against fellow relegation battlers West Ham United on the horizon, Leeds’ priority remains Premier League safety, allowing the team to focus on a potential cup run.
