Relegation Battle: Latest Oxford United Team and Injury News for Vital Visit of Blackburn
Oxford United have received a boost ahead of their crucial relegation clash with Blackburn Rovers, with several players edging closer to a return and no fresh injury concerns reported.
Meanwhile, Blackburn will travel with a number of important absentees ahead of Wednesday night’s encounter.
Oxford United Team and Injury Update
Oxford will still be without a couple of key players for the remainder of the campaign.
Academy product Tyler Goodrham has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury. Midfielder Brian De Keersmaecker is also sidelined for the remainder of the campaign following an operation on his shoulder.
However, the U’s could welcome back a few players soon. Winger Przemyslaw Placheta is pushing for a return after recovering from a calf issue. January signing Jamie McDonnell was named on the bench in Oxford’s last match and will be hoping to get minutes against Blackburn.
Blackburn Rovers Injury News
Blackburn, on the other hand, are dealing with a lengthy injury list ahead of the trip.
Midfielder Sondre Tronstad has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering an ACL injury during last month’s defeat to Bristol City. Defender Lewis Miller is also out for the remainder of the campaign after picking up an ACL injury during the victory over QPR, which will also rule him out of the upcoming World Cup.
Defender George Pratt continues his recovery from a facial injury sustained during an Under-21 match against Birmingham.
Goalkeeper Aynsley Pears, who has been sidelined with a wrist injury, has returned to training and could soon be back in contention.
Young defender Matty Litherland remains unavailable after suffering a hamstring injury on New Year’s Day. The youngster had made just four league appearances before the setback.
Welsh winger Ryan Hedges is another long-term absentee after breaking his leg in the same New Year’s Day match that sidelined Litherland.
Meanwhile, winger Augustus Kargbo is still recovering from a calf injury initially sustained in October. Although he returned to training, he suffered a setback in March and is not expected to return until after the next international break.
Potential Blackburn Return
There is some positive news for Blackburn, as midfielder Todd Cantwell could return to the squad on Wednesday. He has been out since February due to a foot injury but may be available for the clash against Oxford United.
