Wayne Rooney has nailed it with Jordan Pickford after Everton’s win over Chelsea
Jordan Pickford Shines Again as Everton Thrash Chelsea – Rooney Hails His Brilliance
Jordan Pickford once again proved pivotal for Everton in their dominant 3-0 victory over Chelsea, and Wayne Rooney’s post-match assessment is hard to argue with.
Everton delivered one of their finest performances of the season on Saturday night at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with Beto scoring twice and setting up Iliman Ndiaye, while the team’s pressing and work rate were exceptional. Fans were spoilt for choice with standout performers throughout the match.
Manager David Moyes highlighted James Garner as the best player on the pitch, but the goalscorers and many others impressed. Yet, it was Pickford’s heroics between the sticks that truly stole the show.
Speaking on Match of the Day, Rooney praised Pickford:
“He was sublime. He’s been incredible for many years, not just for Everton but for England. The saves he’s making are unreal and winning the team crucial points.”
Rooney singled out a particularly spectacular save from Enzo Fernandez, remarking on Pickford’s speed and reactions:
“He goes for the first one, gets up so quickly, and Fernandez is six yards out, blasting the ball. Pickford gets a hand on it—an incredible save. Then there were other vital saves at 1-0, showing bravery and quick thinking. He doesn’t get the credit he deserves.”
Despite a rare mistake against Arsenal last weekend, Pickford bounced back in style, further cementing his reputation for consistency. His performances continue to make him a contender for Everton’s Player of the Season award.
Even Gary Lineker has argued that Pickford deserves recognition as one of the world’s best goalkeepers, noting that his contributions may have kept Everton in the Premier League. If he maintains this level, there’s no doubt he will leave a lasting mark as a Premier League great.
