Steven Gerrard feels West Ham star is a more likely Liverpool signing than Jarrod Bowen

Crysencio Summerville’s future looks set to come under renewed scrutiny, with the West Ham United winger emerging as a potential long-term option for Liverpool following Mohamed Salah’s impending departure — a move highlighted by Anfield legend Steven Gerrard.

After years of dominance, Salah’s exit — bringing an end to a glittering spell that delivered multiple trophies and over 250 goals — has left Liverpool searching for a worthy successor. While Jarrod Bowen has often been tipped for that role, Gerrard believes Summerville could represent a more forward-looking solution, particularly with Bowen approaching 30.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Gerrard praised Summerville’s development and impact this season, noting his sharpness in one-on-one situations and his hunger despite West Ham’s struggles. He also suggested that, while Bowen is a quality player, he may fall short of the elite level required to truly replace Salah.

Gerrard’s endorsement reflects just how far Summerville has progressed in recent months, placing him in conversations alongside top young talents like Yan Diomande, Bradley Barcola, and Michael Olise. The former Leeds United winger has grown into one of West Ham’s standout performers in an otherwise difficult campaign.

Gerrard stressed that replacing a player of Salah’s calibre will be both costly and challenging, insisting Liverpool must target elite, proven attackers. In his view, players like Olise offer the kind of “box office” quality required, while versatile options such as Barcola and emerging prospects like Diomande could also fit the bill.

Meanwhile, Summerville himself has not ruled out a future away from the London Stadium. Reflecting on his career path — from Feyenoord to Leeds and now West Ham — he hinted that his journey could yet take another turn, though his immediate focus remains on helping the Hammers avoid relegation.
Interest in the Dutch winger is already building. Napoli, managed by Antonio Conte, are among the latest clubs linked, while transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has indicated that a busy summer lies ahead.

West Ham reportedly turned down approaches from AS Roma and Tottenham Hotspur in January, viewing Summerville as untouchable during the season.

However, with three years left on his contract and growing interest across Europe, that stance could shift in the summer.

If West Ham secure their Premier League status, they are expected to demand a significant profit on the £30 million they paid for a player who has rapidly evolved into one of their most valuable assets.
