adminAnge Postecoglou has opened up about the “brutal” way his short stint at Nottingham Forest came to an end—just 39 days after taking charge.
The former Tottenham Hotspur manager stepped in to replace Nuno Espírito Santo in September, but his time at the City Ground was brief and difficult. He oversaw eight matches without securing a single win, and a heavy 3–0 home defeat to Chelsea ultimately sealed his fate. Remarkably, he was dismissed less than 20 minutes after the final whistle.
Speaking to Australian radio station SEN 116, Postecoglou revealed he had been warned against taking the job so soon after leaving Spurs and joining mid-season—but chose to go ahead anyway.
“I hadn’t shared this before, but it was brutal,” he said. “I got sacked straight after the game. I was in the coaches’ room and already had a feeling it was coming, but they didn’t wait—they did it immediately.”
He described the chaotic aftermath, explaining that the media had already caught wind of his dismissal before he could even face them. Walking through crowded corridors, he admitted he just wanted to leave quickly to avoid reacting emotionally.
Postecoglou also noted he hadn’t yet spoken to his assistant coaches—many of whom he suspected would also lose their jobs—while navigating through a sea of reporters and onlookers.
Security staff eventually helped him exit the stadium, but the ordeal didn’t end there. With post-match traffic restrictions delaying his departure, he found himself stuck in his car while both Chelsea and Forest fans voiced their frustrations. Despite the tense situation, he still took time to greet young fans asking for selfies.
Reflecting on the experience, he said: “I paid the price. Whatever mistake I made, it felt like a heavy one.”
Following his departure, Nottingham Forest turned to Sean Dyche as head coach. However, his tenure was also short-lived, ending after a goalless draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers in February, before Vítor Pereira became the club’s fourth manager of the season.
