It was far from the start De Zerbi had hoped for, and with only six games remaining, he will be desperate to secure a win against Brighton to spark a late revival.
That task, however, looks far from straightforward. Brighton arrive in strong form under Fabian Hürzeler, having won their last three matches, including a 2-0 victory over Burnley. The visitors will be aiming to continue that momentum as they push for a European spot.
De Zerbi shares injury update
Tottenham suffered a major setback earlier in the week when captain Cristian Romero was ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee injury sustained against Sunderland. The diagnosis means he will be sidelined for at least six weeks, bringing a premature end to his campaign.
There was some positive news, though, as Rodrigo Bentancur has returned to training after a three-month absence. Speaking ahead of the Brighton clash, De Zerbi confirmed the midfielder is available, along with Yves Bissouma, though he stopped short of guaranteeing Bentancur a place in the starting lineup.
Vicario still sidelined
While Bentancur’s return is a welcome boost, Tottenham will once again be without first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. The Italian underwent hernia surgery during the March international break and has yet to regain full fitness.
Although there were hopes he might return in time for this fixture, Vicario’s absence from training suggests he is not ready. As a result, Antonin Kinsky is expected to continue in goal.
With the pressure mounting, Tottenham’s players must raise their performance levels if they are to overcome Brighton and finally secure their first league win of 2026.
