The former Manchester United captain believes Spurs will secure enough points to survive, predicting instead that either Nottingham Forest or West Ham United will drop into the EFL Championship alongside Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Spurs’ struggles continued as they fell into the relegation zone before losing 1-0 to Sunderland on 12 April in Roberto De Zerbi’s first game in charge. With six matches remaining, the north London side sit two points behind West Ham and three adrift of Forest. Meanwhile, Leeds United are six points clear of danger in 15th after their win at Manchester United.
Keane pointed to potential distractions for Spurs’ rivals, noting that Forest’s European campaign could impact their league form. They recently progressed to the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League after beating Porto. Leeds, on the other hand, face an FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea later this month.
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Keane insisted Spurs would survive despite their poor form. He acknowledged their lack of confidence, creativity, and midfield cohesion but maintained belief they would escape the drop, adding that football can often defy logic.
Tottenham’s form has been alarming, with no league wins in 2026 and just five points taken from their last 42 available. De Zerbi now prepares for his first home match against his former club Brighton & Hove Albion.
Fellow pundit Gary Neville suggested Spurs’ relegation rivals hold an edge due to their more structured style of play. However, Keane remains unconvinced that Tottenham will go down, insisting he cannot envisage the club competing in the Championship next season.
Off the pitch, De Zerbi has attempted to lift morale by organising a team-bonding dinner in central London earlier this week.
Midfielder Lucas Bergvall also struck a defiant tone, insisting the squad will keep fighting until the end of the season. He stressed the importance of unity, belief, and fan support, expressing confidence that Spurs can still turn their campaign around and secure survival.
